At
the Race Track
Another pulse-pounding season of Extreme International Ice Racing came to a close
as Anthony
“The British Bulldog” Barlow, walked away from the Rockford Metro Center in Illinois
as the AMA/ XIIR 2006 Speedway Champion on February 26th.
Barlow, winner of three previous World Ice Championships and four National Ice
Racing Championships, dominated ice arenas in 2006, ranking among the top three
in nearly all of this season’s races.
In XIIR ATV news, Rich Schoelberl was once again crowned “king of the rink” at
the final round of the XIIR 2006 Championship Series. “Double Trouble”
Schoelberl won the event after the first heat at Family Arena in St. Charles, MO.
Louis “Taz Man” Smith, who XIIR fans may remember suffered a broken leg in a non-riding
accident before the Rockford round last year, finished just 10 points behind Schoelberl
in 2nd place.
SuperTrapp is the official exhaust sponsor of the XIIR and every racer in the series
is equipped with a SuperTrapp. For more information on the series, visit the Website.
SuperTrapp is serving as the official exhaust sponsor to Tom Carlson’s TC Racing.
We also will provide financial support for two of his top pro-class riders in the
2006 ATVA Grand National Moto-Cross Championship. All TC racing riders will be
sporting SuperTrapp’s new ATV racing exhaust designed in association with Tom Carlson,
himself. The new pipe features SuperTrapp’s signature tuneable discs and provides
top-notch performance without producing an ear-piercing sound.
In addition, we are proud to recognize Jason Luburgh and Jason Dunkleburger as
new riders to the SuperTrapp racing family. Competing in the premier pro-class
ATVA ITP-Moose Grand National Motocross, the two trail the current leader, Joey
Byrd, following his performance in the first two races of the season. Luburgh and
Dunkleburger will look to make a strong push for the podium as the season continues.
The next stop on the 2006 ATVA ITP-Moose Grand National Motocross series is April
29-30, 2006 at Birch Creek in Danville, VA. For the complete schedule, please visit
the Website.
Racer
Profile: Jeff Schneider
Jeff Schneider, an avid stunt rider, has set his sights far above those of most
stuntmen. How far? Roughly the length of 21 cars.
Schneider plans to break a Harley Davidson world record by jumping over 21 cars
on his Harley XR750. And SuperTrapp plans to help by providing an exhaust for the
big jump.
“It’s the only performance exhaust I would want on my bike for the stunt,” said
Schneider.
Schneider, an avid rider for 24 years, is now a member of the Harley Stunts team.
An up and coming stunt rider, Schneider has been performing professionally for
two years, but in that short amount of time he’s made stunt-riding fans take notice.
Keep an eye out for Schneider and his bike flying high over the Las Vegas sky in
the near future.

Werner's Words
Bill Werner is the most successful tuner in AMA Grand National history with
13 championships to his credit. He spent 38 years as a racing mechanic for Harley-Davidson,
always striving to squeeze every last bit of power from the Harley engine. He's
been using SuperTrapp mufflers since the 70s when he discovered the tuneable technology
allowed him to meet sound requirements and still gain power.
After his retirement in 2004, Bill agreed to lend his expertise to SuperTrapp to
help develop race and street systems with ultimate power and performance. He's
also agreed to share some stories and words of wisdom with you, the readers of
Pipeline.
The Season After the Season
Most people think of the off-season as a time for rest, but believe it or not,
a tuner works harder during off-season than during the actual season itself. During
the racing season, tuners are basically in maintenance mode. There really isn’t
enough time between races to make major adjustments during the season so tuners
are just looking to ensure that the bike’s performance doesn’t degrade as the season
goes on.
Tuners really look forward to off-season because that’s when it’s all about development.
It’s a time to take a look at your team to see where you and the team are compared
to where you want to be.
Once tuners assess these strengths and weaknesses, their job is to manage resources.
When making a change to a bike’s setup, the two key resources that need to be considered
are time and money. Some changes can be made relatively quickly and inexpensively,
but other changes require a major consideration of both time and money.
Know the Schedule
When deciding how to distribute resources in the off-season, next season’s schedule
becomes a key consideration. It’s a good idea to evaluate the amount of races at
each particular distance to determine where to focus your efforts.
This season will be especially unique as the flat track Championship will be split
into two series, twin-cylinders and single-cylinders. It will be difficult for
teams to be competitive in both series, so it will once again come down to the
tuner’s decision about how to distribute resources in the off-season for the team
to achieve maximum results in 2006.
The main difference when preparing for the two series is that the Harley XR750
has been around for over 30 years and most tuners know a lot of the tricks of the
trade. This puts much more pressure on the tuner because he must work harder to
achieve a significant advantage over his peers. With the relatively new single-cylinder
bikes, the aftermarket options are much greater. This makes a tuner’s job a little
easier because there are many more options from which to choose.
No Rest for the Weary
During the off-season, flat track racers like to participate in golf and other
off-the-track hobbies. But, for a tuner the off-season is all work and no play.
In fact, any top tuner with an off-season hobby and time to enjoy that hobby probably
isn’t a top tuner after all.

This month's testimonial
This month, our testimonial takes us all the way to Hollywood, California. That’s
right, SuperTrapp will be making its big screen debut in the highly-anticipated
Ghost Rider. Here’s what Dane Davis, Academy Award winning sound designer, said
about choosing a SuperTrapp to supply the sound for one of the bikes in the movie.
We got great material. The SuperTrapp exhaust made the Harley sound believable
(as a stunt machine) but very powerful with a bright vocal edge while blooming
the Harley deep roar. The director wants this motorcycle (out of five different
Harleys in the movie) to sound like a rocket when it takes off into a jump.
Be sure to check out Ghost Rider when it hits theaters early next year.
And, in case you missed it, here’s a quick excerpt from American Rider (February
2006, p.28). The publication recently featured SuperTrapp’s X-Pipes on its February
cover bike.
Finding an exhaust system that has the shotgun look and fits the wider fender
and struts became a challenge. The upper pipe needed to be spaced farther out to
the wider strut and fender...Arman found that SuperTrapp’s Paul Yaffe X-Pipes fit
perfectly.
As always, feel free to send us your SuperTrapp testimonials and keep an eye out
for them in an upcoming issue of The Pipeline.
